Step 2 - Advertising

Advertising Properties

Vacant properties will be advertised on a weekly basis. Each advert will include basic property details such as:

  • Property type, e.g. house or flat
  • The number of bedrooms
  • Weekly rent
  • Heating type

The advert will also include details of who is eligible to bid for the property, for example, a three bedroom house may state only applicants with two or more children can bid.

Properties are advertised in the following ways:

  • Via Property Search on this website.
  • In a weekly property magazine available from the local housing office or one of the collection points located within the district

The adverts tell you the landlord, location, size, rent and other features of the property to help you decide which properties are right for you.

Where available a photograph of the property or a similar house type is provided and you can access information about the local area and facilities.

The advert also tells you if there are any special requirements that the applicant must meet, such as age requirements and which band will be given priority for the property. If you are not in the band stated you may still apply for the property providing it is suitable for your family size.

A range of symbols are used to tell you about the property.

Expressing Your Interest in a Property

To apply for a property you must tell us that you wish to be considered for it. You may only apply for a property that is suitable for your family size. Click Step One-Registration for the maximum number of bedrooms that you are entitled to. In some circumstances it may be possible to apply for a smaller property than you are entitled to as long as this does not result in overcrowding.

You can express your interest or bid, as it is also known, in one of the following ways:

  • Online through our website
  • By telephoning our 24hr automated bidding line on 0300 999 2399
  • By using our kiosks in one of our Housing Offices. Our staff will be happy to show you how to do this.

Properties available to rent are advertised from midnight on a Wednesday to midnight the following Monday every week.

You will be able to bid for a maximum of two properties during the time they are advertised. Bids will not be accepted after midnight on a Monday. You will only be able to bid for a property that is suitable for your family size.
