Welfare Reform

If you receive Housing Benefit and you are of working age there are some important changes you need to be aware of.

- Changes to Housing Benefit is you have a spare bedroom. If you are a Council or Housing Association tenant and you have one or more 'spare' bedroom your Housing Benefit may be reduced. Click here for details of the changes and to find out if you are likely to be affected.

- Introduction of Universal Credit. From October 2013 people in receipt of welfare benefits will start to receive their benefits through one single payment, known as Universal Credit. This will ffect you if you receive benefits such as Income Support, Housing Benefit, Employment Support Allowance or Tax Credits. For more details of Universal Credit and how it will affect you click here.

- Benefit Cap. The total amount of welfare benefits a household can receive will be limited or 'capped'. Click here to find out more about the Benefit Cap.

If you are searching and bidding for properties it is important you are aware of the changes and consider if the properties you are bidding for will be affordable when the changes are introduced.
